How It's Made

Individual and unique as the artist herself, each piece starts life as a lump of clay, which is hand-crafted using various methods, then fired repeatedly in Karen's home studio.

Each piece is a distinctive work of art.

Using stoneware, each piece is first built by hand or "thrown" on a pottery wheel. Some pieces have elements of both hand building and wheel combined. The piece then undergoes several techniques to achieve the intricate detail and superb craftsmanship that are Karen's hallmarks.

Finally, multiple coats of lead-free, food-safe glazes are applied, resulting in functional ware that is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe.
